What is CO2 laser surgery?
CO2 laser surgery uses a beam of light energy to vaporise cells and cut tissues. The surgeon controls the power of the laser, allowing absolute surgical precision. It is delicate enough to selectively remove a few tissue cells at a time, and also powerful enough to remove larger skin growths and tumours.
What are the benefits of CO2 laser surgery?
- Reduced need for a general anaesthetic, as many CO2 laser procedures can be performed with local anaesthetic and light sedation.
- Less bleeding, as blood vessels less than 0.6mm are cauterised
- Less pain, as nerve endings are cauterised
- Less inflammation, as lymphatics are cauterised
- Reduced risk of infection, as tissue is sterilised
- Faster recovery time!
