CO2 laser surgery for pets

Skinvet is the only veterinary clinic in Ireland offering CO2 laser surgery for pets. We are proud to be the first Irish veterinary clinic to own a state-of-the-art VetScalpelĀ® surgical laser. Manufactured in Seattle, USA, the VetScalpel is widely recognised as the leading veterinary CO2 surgical laser in the world.

Our dermatologists Kathryn and Fiona are delighted to offer this unique treatment to pets from all over Ireland. In addition, Kathryn is a member of the American Laser Study Club and attends their annual veterinary laser surgery symposium.

What is CO2 laser surgery?

CO2 laser surgery uses a beam of light energy to vaporise cells and cut tissues. The surgeon controls the power of the laser, allowing absolute surgical precision. It is delicate enough to selectively remove a few tissue cells at a time, and also powerful enough to remove larger skin growths and tumours.

What are the benefits of CO2 laser surgery?

  • Reduced need for a general anaesthetic, as many CO2 laser procedures can be performed with local anaesthetic and light sedation.
  • Less bleeding, as blood vessels less than 0.6mm are cauterised
  • Less pain, as nerve endings are cauterised
  • Less inflammation, as lymphatics are cauterised
  • Reduced risk of infection, as tissue is sterilised
  • Faster recovery time!
