Do I have to travel to Cork? Can my pet have a consultation with Skinvet elsewhere?

Skinvet Ireland, Ireland’s only dedicated dermatology clinic for pets, is located in Midleton, Co Cork. You will have to travel with your pet to Cork for a consultation. How to find us.

My pet does not like car journeys – is there anything I can do?

Speak to us, or speak to your primary care vet, before you travel to Skinvet about the range of anti-anxiety medications that are available for pets that don’t like car journeys. We want to make sure that your experience at Skinvet is stress-free and positive for you and your pet.

Can I have a Zoom/Online consultation for my pet?

No. All our consultations are in person, with your pet, at our clinic in Midleton. We’re unable to perform online consults, for legal reasons and also, more importantly, taking samples from your pet’s skin is a key tool for us to figure out the diagnosis and treatment plan and stop the itch. Many skin infections and skin conditions can look the same until they are examined microscopically.

How much is a consultation at Skinvet?

The first consultation is €160 – this appointment is at least an hour long. It includes reviewing your pet’s full skin history, sampling your pet’s skin and ears, examining samples under the microscope, and discussing a treatment plan with you. Depending on your pet’s skin condition, 1-2 phone call check-ins on your pet’s progress are also included in this fee. Any further tests (for example allergy tests or biopsies) or medication for your pet are extra. Additional costs are discussed and approved by you before proceeding.

Second and subsequent consultation fee is €80. This appointment is usually 45mins long and includes sampling your pet’s skin and ears, examining samples under the microscope, and discussing your pet’s treatment plan and skincare routine with you. Most pets require a recheck appointment 4-6 weeks after their first consultation.

Are you open on Saturdays?

Skinvet is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We are also closed on bank holidays.

What days can I be seen with my pet for a first consultation?

My pet is having a procedure under general anaesthetic at Skinvet – what day will this be done?

My pet has been referred by my vet for an ear scope – what is this?

Video-otoscopy (ear scope) is a procedure performed under general anaesthetic at Skinvet when a specialised camera is inserted in your pet’s ear canal. Your pet may have chronic or un-resolving ear infection or ear pain. Video-otoscopy performed by our dermatologists, examines and visualises the inside of your pet’s ear, deep cleans the ear canals, takes tissue samples, and removes growths or foreign objects. Learn more about ears and ear scopes HERE

I have a pet with bad ear infections, can I book an ear scope for my pet?

Yes you can. If you’re frustrated by your pet’s unresolved ear condition, contact us to book a video-otoscopy procedure. We will request a patient history from your primary care vet, and send you and your vet a full report of the procedure and the follow-up treatment plan.

How much does an ear scope cost?

An ear scope costs roughly €700-900. The exact cost will depend on your pet’s age, weight, concurrent skin disease, and other individual requirements.

My pet has been referred by my vet for CO2 laser podoplasty – what is this?

Your vet has referred your pet to Skinvet for CO2 laser podoplasty to treat unresolving pododermatitis (inflammation of the foot/feet) and interdigital furunculosis (painful, rupturing, cysts between the toes). Your pet has more than likely had long courses of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories that have been unable to treat the condition. CO2 laser surgery (only performed at Skinvet Ireland) will remove the infected, overgrown and damaged footpad(s) and interdigital cysts. This procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. Click HERE for more information.

My pet has a lot of skin warts – how do I treat them?

You can have these warts easily removed by CO2 Laser Surgery at Skinvet Ireland. Skinvet is proud to be the only clinic in Ireland with a CO2 surgical laser. The procedure is often performed under local anaesthetic, there is less bleeding, less pain, and swifter recovery times. Find out more about laser surgery for pets.

Skinvet Ireland has an online shop – are your shampoos and skin products better than others?

Pet food, pet-friendly SPF, skin supplements and skincare products are available for purchase on our online shop. The range of products online are used routinely by our veterinary dermatologists to treat and provide skincare to the pets we see with skin conditions. If your pet has a skin condition, but has not attended Skinvet Ireland for a consultation, the skincare product or shampoo you purchase may not improve or treat your pet’s skin condition. Please read the brief product description carefully before purchase. Book a consultation for your pet HERE.

I can’t stress enough how incredible this place is. The help and amount of support and attention we received was overwhelming. On our first visit everything was clearly explained to us, we had been left with every possible choice on how to proceed with our dog and every step was explained so we could decide. Our dog was struggling with itchy skin and after many many places, Skinvet was the only one that really helped us out. The way they interact with your pet, how friendly the staff and whole place is is just incredible. If you have any issues with your pet related to allergies/skin problems… THIS IS THE PLACE.
